Jon Turteltaub helmed the thrilling science fiction action film The Meg in 2018. Based on Steve Alten's gripping novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, this movie starred Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, and Cliff Curtis. Set in the depths of the Pacific Ocean during a daring rescue mission led by a group of scientists, the plot takes an unexpected turn when they encounter an enormous megalodon shark measuring an astonishing 75 feet (23 meters) long. Despite facing numerous challenges during its development phase that led to Walt Disney Studios relinquishing the rights to Warner Bros. Pictures in the 1990s; The Meg finally hit screens after being green-lit in 2013. Principal photography took place across stunning locations such as New Zealand and Sanya (China), concluding in January 2017. Upon its release on August 10th that year in the United States; this box office hit grossed an impressive $530 million worldwide but garnered mixed reviews from critics. As a result of its success came the release of a sequel, Meg 2: The Trench, in August 2023.
